Girls Clinch State Championship!!
Led by Coaches Junior Temotio and Kyle Berry, The Ponte Vedra Girls' Swimming team crushed the competition on Saturday in Stuart earning 245 points (2nd place 203, 3rd place 165) to win the 3A State Championship! This is the first state title in school history. Both the 200 medley and 200 free relay teams took 1st place and our state champions in their events! 200 Medley Relay State Champs - Junior Annie Wohlgemuth, Sophomore Annabelle MacAdams, Freshman Mary Agnes Smith and Freshman Penny Zarczynski. The girls shattered their school record by almost two seconds with a time of 1:46.05 and are an All-American consideration time. 200 Free Relay State Champs - Freshman Penny Zarczynski, Junior Annie Wohlgemuth, Senior Holly Cox, and Junior LIv Copland. This team also shattered their school record by two seconds with a time of 1:36.27 and are an All-American consideration time. Other top performances include: 2nd Place in the 400 free relay - Freshman Mary Agnes Smith, Senior Holly Cox, Junior Liv Copland, and Sophomore Sydney Straub. With a time of 3:35.66, the girls shattered the school record by almost three seconds! 2nd Place in 100 Backstroke - Junior Annie Wohlgemuth 4th Place in 100 Fly - Junior Annie Wohlgemuth 5th Place in 100 Fly - Freshman Mary Agnes Smith 5th Place in 200 Free - Freshman Mary Agnes Smith 6th Place in 50 Free - Freshman Penny Zarczynski 6th Place in 100 Breast - Junior Liv Copland 7th Place in 500 Free - Senior Holly Cox 9th Place in 200 Free - Senior Holly Cox 9th Place in 100 Breast - Sophomore Annabelle MacAdams 7 of 11 School Records were broken at the Championship Meet! The following individual event records were broken in addition to the relays: 200 I.M. - Junior Liv Copland broke the school record of 2:11.29 with a time of 2:09.75 50 Free - Freshman Penny Zarczynski broke her own record of 24.31 with a time of 23.96 100 Back - Junior Annie Wohlgemuth broke her own record of 54.44 with an All-American time of 53.85 100 Breast - Sophomore Annabelle MacAdams broke her own record of 1:06.34 with a time of 105.92 Way to go, Lady Sharks!!
