Swim Meet Recap: Ponte Vedra Sharks vs. Fernandina Beach High School (9/5/2024)

The Ponte Vedra Sharks delivered an exceptional performance in their dual meet against Fernandina Beach High School, showcasing their strength across all individual events.

Relay Events

Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay: Ponte Vedra’s A-team, composed of Addi Kipfer, Marianna Myers, Penny Zarczynski, and Ainsley MacAdams took second place with a time of 1:55.12, just behind Fernandina Beach’s top team. The Sharks' B-team also performed well, finishing third.

Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay: The boys' A-team, led by Thomas Smith, Sam Wolf, and Matthew Jones, and Grant Mitchell took first place with a time of 1:44.80, earning crucial points for the Sharks.

Individual Events

Girls 200 Yard Freestyle: Ponte Vedra's swimmers Lily Ewer and Windsor Lockhart placed first and second respectively, with Ewer clocking in at 2:03.24 and Lockhart at 2:12.56.

Boys 200 Yard Freestyle: JC Anunciacion of Ponte Vedra placed first with a time of 2:03.64, contributing valuable points, while his teammate Grant Mitchell finished fourth with a time of 2:04.41.

Girls 200 Yard IM: Ponte Vedra’s Lily Doyle took second place in the 200 IM, finishing with a time of 2:20.50. Her teammate, Mady Tulloch, followed closely behind in third place, clocking in at 2:23.73.

Boys 200 Yard IM: Antonio Fraga of Ponte Vedra dominated the 200 IM, finishing first with a time of 2:17.56. Sam Wolf added to the Sharks' success by taking second place with a time of 2:24.27.

Girls 50 Yard Freestyle: Leighton Walter of Ponte Vedra placed second with a time of 26.88, with her teammate Makenna Biernacki finishing third at 27.11. The Sharks' dominance in the sprint was evident with these strong performances.

Boys 50 Yard Freestyle: Ponte Vedra’s Thomas Smith secured second place with a time of 22.80, adding critical points to the Sharks' tally.

Girls 100 Yard Butterfly: Sydney Player led the Sharks with a first-place finish in the 100 Butterfly, completing the race in 1:02.63. Mady Tulloch added to the Sharks' scoring by finishing third with a time of 1:03.32.

Boys 100 Yard Butterfly: Aaron Yang continued his strong showing by winning the 100 Butterfly with a time of 53.82. Dean Batelli ensured a one-two finish for Ponte Vedra by placing second at 56.53.

Girls 100 Yard Freestyle: Penny Zarczynski of Ponte Vedra took first place with a time of 54.73, keeping the Sharks competitive.

Boys 100 Yard Freestyle: John Finnemore secured second place for Ponte Vedra with a time of 50.57, while teammate Venti Krastanov finished just behind in fourth with a time of 1:02.96, adding essential points.

Girls 500 Yard Freestyle: Leighton Walter’s dominated the grueling 500 Freestyle, finishing first with a time of 5:29.43. Teammate Maddie Barry took second, clocking in at 5:36.83, Victoria Chavez took third with a time of 6:05.69, and Anna Dumitrascu took fourth with a time of 6:50.90, showing Ponte Vedra’s depth in distance events.

Boys 500 Yard Freestyle: Thomas Smith led the Sharks with a first-place finish in the 500 Freestyle, posting a time of 4:48.81. Levi Reams followed in third place with a time of 5:19.31, and Sam Wolf took fourth with a time of 5:53.46 contributing to the team’s overall lead.

Girls 100 Yard Backstroke: Ponte Vedra’s Ainsley MacAdams took second place in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:05.88. Teammate Addi Kipfer finished third at 1:07.67, securing more points for the Sharks.

Boys 100 Yard Backstroke: Beau Barry secured a second-place finish with a time of 1:04.54. Teammate Wyatt Maddox finished third at 1:18.30, keeping the Sharks' momentum strong.

Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke: Ponte Vedra’s Marianna Myers and Amelie Rudometkin placed second and third, with times of 1:14.23 and 1:20.24, respectively, maintaining the Sharks’ scoring edge.

Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke: Jono Milicevic led Ponte Vedra with a first-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke, clocking in at 1:08.44 Teammate Eric Hanel followed closely in second with a time of 1:09.08, helping to seal the Sharks' overall victory.

Relay Dominance

Ponte Vedra’s relay teams continued to shine:

  • Boys 200 Yard Freestyle Relay: The A-team led Ponte Vedra to a first-place finish with a time of 1:34.63. The team included Levi Reams, Beau Barry, Antonio Fraga, and Dean Batelli.
  • Girls 200 Yard Freestyle Relay: The A-team secured a strong second place finish which included Ainsley MacAdams, Mackenna Biernacki, Sofi Pigulevsky, and Sofia Abboud with a time of 1:48.64.
  • Boys 400 Yard Freestyle Relay: The A team secured a first place featuring Jono Milicevic, JC Anunciacion, Antonio Fraga, and Beau Barry with a time of 3:37.34.
  • Girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay: The A-team, featuring Lily Doyle, Lily Ewer, Mady Tulloch, and Tessa Hudson, took first place with a time of 4:00.31.

Team Spirit and Good Sportsmanship

The Ponte Vedra Sharks have not only excelled in the pool but have also demonstrated outstanding team spirit and good sportsmanship. Their camaraderie is evident in their support for each other during races and their warm interactions with the community.

After the meet, several members of the Sharks' swim and dive teams were spotted at The Loop, where they made a little girl’s birthday even more special. According to a post from a local resident, Chelsea Boudreau, the team joined in to sing “Happy Birthday” to a 5-year-old celebrating with her family. Their participation left a heartwarming impression, making the evening memorable for everyone involved.

Final Scores

Ponte Vedra Sharks emerged victorious with a commanding combined team score of 390 to 150. The girls' team scored 178 points, while the boys contributed 212 points. The Sharks' dominance across both individual and relay events, along with their exceptional sportsmanship, highlights their depth and talent, setting a strong tone for the rest of the season.

Coach Kyle Berry and Coach Ashley Reutter are very excited about the season ahead and extremely proud of the team’s accomplishments so far. Let’s continue to build on this momentum as we prepare for the upcoming meets. Go Sharks!
